Catching Camps
Catcher’s Academy
Cost: $150.00
Who is the Catching Camp for?
If you are serious about becoming a better catcher then this camp is designed for you. We will have three hours of focused work on the most important areas that catchers have impact on a game. At Train 2 Compete we believe that catchers need to have three things- Head, Heart, and Guts.
Head
There is a reason that there are so many managers in Major League Baseball that have become managers. A few for example are:
- Ned Yost – Milwaukee Brewers, Kansas City Royals
- Mike Socia – Los Angeles Angels
- Joe Girardi – New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies
- Mike Matheny – St. Louis Cardinals
- Brad Ausmus – Detroit Tigers, LA Angles
The men in the mask is constantly thinking about the situation, pitchers strengths, hitters weaknesses, previous pitches and outcomes. You also have to be able to work with the umpire to establish his zone and then command the pitchers to work within the zone.
Heart
The catcher has the heart of a teacher and is thrust into an instant leadership role on the team. The passion must run deep through their veins to make sure that the fielders know where to go with the next play as well as the understanding to work with pitchers and keep them balanced not only when things are going well, but also when the times are tough and need some guidance. It is for sure that being a catcher is an artform.
Guts
As we just stated great catchers act as another coach on the field as well as a phsychologist at times to guide the team and work with umpires, but they also have to possess a toughness in them that they are going to sacrifice their body to block the baseball and put themselves between the baserunner and the final destination (home plate). There is an edge that all of the great catchers possess where they take pride in keeping the ball from hitting the backstop and stopping the runner from touching home plate.
Camp Focus
Receiving – The #1 impact a catcher has on the game.
Throwing – Second most important way to impact the game
Blocking – It does not happen as often as receiving or throwing, but the time that you need to do it is usually a very critical point in a game. ( for example: runner on third in a tie game, breaking ball in the dirt for strike 3)
Plays at the Plate
Turning double plays
Communication
This is a great opportunity to separate yourself from the competition and prepare for the upcoming travel baseball tryouts and your Spring season. We are excited to connect with you and help you achieve your goals!
